Pupils can be referred to HHTS for home teaching by their school or college or by medical professionals. Please feel free to call the service to discuss a potential referral.

Once a referral is made, the Head of Service will visit the child at home. During the meeting consent is given to contact the relevant consultant who will be asked to approve home teaching. Once this is in place, home teaching can begin.

On Acorn Ward all young people aged 4 - 16 are visited by staff from HHTS during school hours. They are invited to the schoolroom or playroom or can be provided with activities at their bedside if this is more appropriate.

Pupils can be marked as "educated off site" in their school register if they receive input from our service at the hospital (or at home). Information about attendance is provided to schools by the service (with consent from parent/guardian/carer). This process is always completed within 6 weeks.
